McKenzie takes lead with 65

Malcolm Mackenzie shot a 7-under-par 65 to move into a one stroke lead at the French Open in Versailles. The Brit now moves to a 14-under-par clubhouse total of 202 ahead of Jose Maria Olazabal and Trevor Immelman in joint second.

The 40-year-old, who has yet to win a title after 21 years, was in blistering form including an eagle chip and a series of scintillating birdies.

Defending champions Olazabal holed in one at the second and showed all his battling qualities with two consecutive birdies at the final two holes.

The last time I led after three rounds was in the Murphy's Cup in 1991," said the new leader. "It's been a long road since then."

Second round leader Immelman did not have such a good afternoon with a 71 to drop one stroke behind Mackenzie, having opened up a four-shot lead on Friday.

Ian Woosnam fired an impressive 66 to move within four shots while 2000 winner Colin Montgomerie is eight shots down having carded a 71.
