Paul Azinger
withdraws through injury Paul
Azinger withdrew from this week's British Open, citing an undisclosed injury.
Azinger, who
has missed the cut in four of the past eight events he has played in, including
the Masters and the U.S. Open, notified tournament organizers this morning. He
hasn't played a competitive round since finishing tied for 54th at last month's
St. Jude Classic. Details
of his injury weren't disclosed. Azinger's Florida- based agent, D.J. Snell, couldn't
immediately be reached. Azinger,
42, finished tied for second behind Nick Faldo in his first Open appearance in
1987, but has missed the cut four of the past five times he has played in golf's
third major of the season, which begins Thursday.
