Monty leads Tiger by one

Colin Montgomerie fired a 7-under-par third round 65 to maintain his lead at the Deutsche Bank Open although Tiger Woods now trails the Scot by a single shot, the American going one better with an impressive 64.

Justin Rose of England had another super day, his 6-under-par 66 lifting him into third spot, three shots off the lead.

Things looked bleak at one stage for Montgomerie who had to receive treatment for a back injury but the Scot played some wonderful golf to end the day on 17-under-par.

"I never thought I was going to continue. I have a very weak back," explained Montgomerie.

"If I get some flexibility I have a chance but I am concerned I will not be able to compete," added the 38-year-old.

Tiger Woods began the day on 8-under-par and was in inspirational form as he moved to 13-under-par after only five holes.

However, the 2002 US Masters winner could only birdie a further three holes to finish on 16-under-par.

Justin Rose shot a round of 66 to go with his 65 from Saturday and the 2002 dunhill winner is now only three shots off the lead on 14-under-par.
