Quigley takes over lead with 64

Dana Quigley, celebrating his latest iron man milestone, grabbed the second-round lead Saturday with a 7-under-par 64 at the SBC Championship.

Quigley birdied six of the first 11 holes and the last on a bogey-free day at Oak Hills Country Club. His two-round total of 10-under 132 is a stroke better than Vicente Fernandez of Argentina.

"Saturday is an important day," said Quigley, who began four shots off the pace. "If you have a good round, you can pass a lot of people."

The 55-year-old Quigley is appearing in the 200th consecutive event for which he has been eligible. He has played in every tournament since the 1997 Senior Tour Championship, for which he did not qualify.

"I'm proud of my streak," said Quigley, who won his sixth title on the Senior Tour in March. "There's nothing I enjoy more than playing a round of golf."

Fernandez began and ended the day in second, birdying three of the final four holes after bogeying the last two Friday. He carded a 4-under 67 for a 36-hole total of 9-under 133, a shot ahead of Australian Rodger Davis.

"The finish today made up for yesterday," said Fernandez, who needs to win the $217,500 top prize for a trip to next week's season-ending Senior Tour Championship.

Davis bogeyed the last hole but is in contention for his first win in 35 career starts on the tour. He also has his eye on holding down 31st place on the money list, the last spot to qualify for the Senior Tour Championship.

"My focus the last couple of weeks has been the top 31, instead of winning tournaments," said Davis, who leads Dave Eichelberger by less than $5,000.

Eichelberger is tied for 13th, seven strokes off the pace. Gary McCord, who is 30th on the money list, is tied for 21st, eight shots back.

Tom Watson and Gil Morgan share fourth at 7-under 135, with Fuzzy Zoeller at 136 and Tom Kite, Bruce Fleisher and first-round leader George Archer at 137.

Archer has a slim chance of becoming the oldest champion in tour history. As of Sunday, he will be 63 years, 20 days. Mike Fetchick won the 1985 Hilton Head Seniors Invitational on his 63rd birthday
