Garcia gains first win on home soil

Sergio Garcia clinched his first title on Spanish soil at the Canarias Open de Espana on Sunday, finishing with a 13-under-par total after a one-over-par round of 73.

Italian Emanuele Canonica gained one shot on El Nino with a level-par round of 72 to finish four shots behind, with Briton Greg Owen a further shot down in third.

The 22-year-old Spaniard recorded his worst round of the tournament, which included a double-bogey and two dropped shots in the final seven holes.

The victory at the El Cortijo Club de Campo course is Garcia's fourth European Tour victory but significantly his first on home soil. His last win was at the Lancome Trophy in September.

The 31-year-old Canonica had begun the day in second place five shots behind Garcia but could only recoup one shot after a round of 72 to post a nine-under-par total of 272.

Briton Greg Owen also shot a level-par final round of 72 to stay third.

Spanish teen sensation Rafael Cabrera shot a 73 to tie for fourth place with Sweden's Carl Pettersson.
