Four share lead into weekend

Australia's Brendan Jones scored 14 under the modified Stableford format Friday for a share of the second-round lead in the ANZ Championship.

Jones had 22 points overall to match countrymen Nathan Green, Nick O'Hern and Terry Price for the top spot on the oceanside New South Wales Golf Club course.

Players receive eight points for double eagle, five for eagle, two for birdie, zero for par, minus-one for bogey, and minus-three for double bogey or higher.

Jones had an eagle, six birdies and three bogeys. Green had seven birdies and a bogey for a 13-point round, and O'Hern and Price each scored 12 points.

Australians Jarrod Moseley and Craig Parry were a point back along with New Zealand's Rich Lee and England's Gary Evans. Moseley had an 18-point round with an eagle, seven birdies and a bogey.

Finland's Mikko Ilonen had the best round of a day, scoring 19 points to tie for 20th with 17 points. He had an eagle and seven birdies in a 9-under 63.

Australian star Adam Scott was minus-one for two rounds to miss the cut. He said he does not expect to defend his Qatar Masters title next month because of the unrest in the area.

"I think I'll see for as long as I can what happens in the Middle East," Scott said. "I sure wouldn't like to be stuck over there when all hell breaks loose."

Green had a disappointing season last year on the Buy.com Tour in the United States, missing the cut in 14 of 22 events and earning only $26,694.

"Last year was probably the toughest year of my life golf-wise, I think I've made more cuts this year than I made all last year," Green said. "I certainly bottomed out."
