Inkster & Ochoa tie for first day lead

Rookie Lorena Ochoa and veteran Juli Inkster shot 6-under-par 66s Wednesday to share the lead after one round of the Evian Masters.

Rosie Jones was one stroke back after an opening 67, and Janice Moodie and Jeong Jang were tied for fourth after rounds of 4-under 68.

Se Ri Pak, Karrie Webb and Laura Davies were in a group of nine players at 70, and Annika Sorenstam opened with a 72 and finished in a six-player group in 31st place.

The 22-year-old Ochoa played the first seven holes in 6-under, carding four birdies and an eagle in a front-nine 29.

``It was an incredible start,'' Ochoa said. ``Especially the 26-foot putt for eagle on the seventh hole. That was a great feeling.

``This is my first 29 on Tour. I made a lot of putts today.''

Ochoa had two bogeys and a birdie on the back nine for a 37.

``After the 29, of course you want to go lower, but I knew the back nine was tougher,'' Ochoa said.

Inkster made eagle at No. 18, hitting a 5-iron to within five feet. She finished with six birdies and had just one birdie putt from beyond 10 feet.

``I played good and putted good and gave myself lots of chances,'' Inkster said.

Sorenstam, the defending champion, had three birdies, one bogey and a double bogey. She hit her drive out of bounds at No. 15 and made her double.

``I started to steam on 15 because I was excited to play again, I'd been hitting the ball well, but I was just not making anything, `` Sorenstam said.

``It was O.K. for a first day. Now, I've got to move on.''
