Poulter vaults into lead with 63
Ian Poulter of England shot a 9-under-63 Friday for a one-stroke lead over Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain after two rounds at the Linde German Masters.
Poulter, bidding for his sixth title in four years on the European Tour, was at 16-under 128. He pulled into the lead when a double bogey by Fredrik Jacobson on the 16th hole wiped out the Swede's one-stroke lead.
"The greens are perfect," Poulter said on a day when low scores were plentiful at the $3.4 million tournament. "They don't have to defend the course -- the course is fantastic. It's in great shape."
Jacobson led after the opening round with a 60 that tied the European record for low round. He followed with a 71 that left him three strokes back.
On Friday, Sweden's Anders Hansen headed to the 18th with a chance at 60 but had a bogey for a 62.
Angel Jimenez shot a 62 and was at 129. At 130 were Spain's Carlos Rodiles (65) and England's Miles Tunnicliff (62). Joining Jacobson at 131 were Anders Hansen of Denmark (62), K.J. Choi of South Korea (68) and Gary Orr of Scotland (66).
Bernhard Langer was among those missing the cut. Langer co-hosts the tournament with his brother and has won the title five times.
