Arruti & Sherbourne lead at halfway

Spain's Jesus Maria Arruti and England's Andrew Sherborne shared the lead midway through the second round of the rain-delayed Madeira Island Open on Friday.

Arruti, the first-round leader after a 6-under 66, was 1 over through 12 holes, and Sherborne, 4 under after the first round, moved to 5 under through six holes when the second round was stopped due to darkness.

Half the field had to complete the first round Friday after rain in the Portuguese islands caused a 3 1/2-hour delay Thursday.

Bradley Dredge, the only top 100 player in Madeira, Andrew Marshall, Henrik Stenson and Alberto Binaghi were tied for third place at 3 under.

Seve Ballesteros, playing his first tournament in five months, followed an opening 78 with a 1-over 73 and was at 7 over.
