Eger clinches title with late birdies

David Eger birdied three of the last four holes Sunday to win the $2 million MasterCard Classic, stroking a 7-under 65 to finish at 12-under.

Eger, who was seventh after Saturday's round, had eight birdies Sunday to win his first tournament and take home the $300,000 first prize.

Defending champion Bruce Lietzke stayed with Eger until he bogeyed the 15th hole and dropped into a four-way tie for second with Eamonn Darcy, Hale Irwin and Tom Jenkins. The foursome finished one-stroke back at 11-under.

Lietzke won last year after shooting a bogey-free final round. This year, he suffered two bogeys and finished with a disappointing 2-under 70.
