Campbell
wins delayed playoff
A three way
tie took place at Portmarnock when Thomas Bjorn, New Zealander Michael
Campbell and Swede Peter Hedblom were tried after the final round
at the Nissan Irish Open.
The trio all
finished on the 11-under-par total of 277, Hedblom having sunk a
25-foot par putt on the last after earlier grabbing birdies at the
14th, 15th and 16th.
After a delay
for thunderstorms to pass the three players teed off the 18th -
All hit good drives but Campbell playing his 2nd shot first almost
holed out with a magnificent iron that finished less than a foot
from the hole. Bjorn and Hedblom both found the green but neither
could hole their puts, leaving Cmpbell the formality of sinking
his put and clinching the title.
In the 4th round
Campbell led by two with eight to play, but bogeyed the next after
taking two in a fairway bunker and, while Hedblom went on his run,
Bjorn two-putted the long 16th to join them.
England's David
Lynn, who shared the overnight lead with Bjorn and Campbell, finished
joint fourth with British Masters champion Greg Owen on nine under.
