The Open - Day 3
Bjorn leads into final round

Faldo moves into contention with 67

Nick Faldo rolled back the years with a sparkling 67 as the British Open third round unfolded in glorious sunshine at Royal St George's on Saturday.

The six-times major champion posted the best round of the tournament, which was later matched by Swede Pierre Fulke, to move to four over par, five shots behind leader Davis Love III.

Faldo made six birdies, sinking an eight-foot putt on the final green to complete his lowest British Open round since 1995. It was also his 35th Open round in the 60s, moving him two ahead of American Jack Nicklaus at the top of the all-time list.

"I just played very well and then made a great finish," said the 46-year-old Briton, who won the last of his three Opens in 1992 at Muirfield.

Fulke eagled the fourth hole and grabbed four birdies to take the clubhouse lead at three over par.

Love was due to tee off at 1430GMT with South Korean SK Ho, who trailed the American by two shots in a tie for second place with Denmark's Thomas Bjorn.

World number one Tiger Woods parred the first hole after starting his round with Sweden's Mathias Gronberg, while defending champion Ernie Els, playing with Zimbabwe's Nick Price, parred the opening three holes before picking up his first birdie at the fourth.

Among the other early starters, Briton Brian Davis fired seven birdies in a rollercoaster round of 68 to trail Fulke by two shots in the clubhouse, and Ireland's Paul McGinley posted a 69 to finish a stroke further back.
