Levi claims two shot victory Wayne Levi won his second Champions Tour event Sunday, shooting a 4-under 68 for a two-stroke victory at the Constellation Energy Classic.
Levi led by two with four holes to play, and added a birdie on the par-5 16th, finishing at 16-under 200 and holding off late charges by several players, including Hale Irwin, Rodger Davis and Jim Thorpe.
``This feels great,'' said the 52-year-old Levi, who won 12 titles on the PGA Tour and claimed the 3M Championship last year. ``It's not like I'm winning one of these every month.''
Irwin matched the tournament record with a final-round 64, finishing alone in second at 14 under. He drained a 93-foot putt for eagle at the par-5 fifth and finished with eight birdies, including five straight on the back nine.
Davis also made eagle at the fifth and stayed in contention with a 31 on the front nine. But he managed just a birdie, seven pars and a bogey on the back nine for a 67, finishing at 203.
Thorpe, who started the round tied for 24th, had eight birdies, including five on the back nine, and matched the tournament record with an 8-under 64. He finished at 204.
He nearly eagled the par-5 18th, hitting his third shot within a foot of the hole, but the ball spun back and settled 40 feet from the cup. Thorpe two-putted and tied Graham Marsh (70) for fourth place.
D.A. Weibring (66) and Jerry Pate (69) tied for sixth at 205, while Jay Overton had an eagle and five birdies in a round of 67 to finish at 206.
Tom Watson, who is set to have arthroscopic hip surgery Tuesday, shot a final-round 71 and finished seven strokes back, tied with Gil Morgan (72) at 205.
Defending champion Larry Nelson finished a 2-under 214. Dave Eichelberger, who had the only hole-in-one in the tournament, closed with a 69 and finished at 5-under.
