Rain washes out Fridays play

Play at the New Orleans Classic was called off because of rain and thunderstorms without a single player having a shot on Friday.

The first round is scheduled to resume at 8am EDT (1200 GMT) on Saturday, with the second round following an hour later.

Rain had caused a delay in Thursday's first round with 75 players yet to complete the round when darkness fell and although play was scheduled to begin on Friday at 8 am EDT, constant rain and scattered storms prevented the round.

Paul Azinger and Gene Sauers share the clubhouse lead with six-under-par 66s, while Robert Damron and Chris DiMarco also reached six-under but have yet to complete their first rounds.

The weather forecast for Saturday and Sunday is for scattered thunderstorms.
