Lewis takes over lead with 63
PGA Tour veteran JL Lewis reeled off seven birdies and an eagle to race into a one-shot lead after the second round of the $4 million Las Vegas Invitational on Friday.
Lewis, 44, who has won twice before on the circuit, fired a nine-under-par 63 at Bear's Best, one of three courses being used here this week, to finish 14-under overall.
Chez Reavie (64), Olin Browne (64) and Germany's Alex Cejka (65) were tied for second place on 13-under.
Reavie, 22, playing in only his second tour event of the season, recorded an eagle two on the 18th at the TPC at Summerlin when he holed out from 151 yards.
Jay Williamson, Harrison Frazar, Dean Wilson, Duffy Waldorf and Tim Petrovic were one stroke further back on 12-under.
World number four Phil Mickelson, competing for the first time since last month's Ryder Cup, carded a five-under 66 at the TPC at The Canyons to finish nine-under.
Defending champion Stuart Appleby of Australia had a five-under 67 at the TPC at Summerlin to move seven-under overall.
The cut will come after Saturday's third round with Sunday's closing round being played at the TPC at Summerlin.
