Woods joins Haas on top of leaderboard

Tiger Woods posted a five-under-par 65 on Saturday to join overnight leader Jay Haas after three rounds of the PGA Tour Championship.

He began with a bogey but the former world number one then made six birdies to match his birdie output in Friday's second round when he went round in 64 at the East Lake Golf Club.

He was nine under overall with a total of 201, and at the top of the leaderboard through 54 holes for the first time since leading last year's WGC-American Express Championship at the Capital City Club north of Atlanta.

The 50-year-old Haas, 22 years older than his playing partner, recorded two bogeys in the first three holes but clawed his way back with four birdies over the last 10 to catch Woods with a 68.

Canadians Mike Weir and Stephen Ames were tied for third with Retief Goosen at five under, four shots back.

Woods, 11 under for his last two rounds, said he and Haas would have to continue to attack the course.

"We can't afford to come back. If we come back, these guys at five...they play a great round of golf, they'll pass us by, so we'll keep going forward."

Australian Mark Hensby was in sixth at two under par, with Scott Verplank and first round co-leader Jerry Kelly one under.

Phil Mickelson, Spain's Sergio Garcia, Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke, Zach Johnson and South African Rory Sabbatini were on level par.

Vijay Singh's quest for 10 wins in 2004 , however, looked to be over. The Fijian was tied for 16th at two-over.
