Woods full of confidence going into Open

Tiger Woods denied suggestions on Tuesday that two years without a major victory has begun to play on his mind as he prepares for the Open.

Asked if he was counting the number of majors he has played without a win, Woods, who last won one at the 2002 U.S. Open, offered and emphatic: "No".

"You go out and try your best. That's all you can do. You can't do anything more than that," added the world number one.

Woods also maintained that lack of recent major success had made him hungrier to break the barren spell.

"I've always played my best when I've gone out and played and stayed focused on what I have to do and not worry about anything else," said Woods. "That's when I play successfully and that's what I've been doing, I'm going to try and keep doing."

Woods is now able to practice as much as he did before his knee surgery, and said he had been back to a full schedule for "about a year".

"It makes a difference having a full schedule if you're working on things," he said. "If you're trying to work on a couple of things you need time, it takes time to develop some of your new swing thoughts and your swing keys."

Woods also maintained he was not worried about his world number one status, with Ernie Els and Vijay Singh currently pushing him hard. A win for Els this week could end his five-year reign at the top.

"If you play well and play consistently and win, then obviously that kind of takes care of itself."
