Harrington joins Furyk at nine under
Ireland's Padraig Harrington carded a three-under-par 68 to join American Jim Furyk at the top of the leaderboard after the third round of the Barclays Classic in Harrison, New York on Saturday.
Harrington, who is chasing his second win of the season, and Furyk (70) finished with matching nine-under totals of 204, two strokes ahead of Brad Faxon and Brian Gay.
Furyk, the 2003 U.S. Open champion, has led since day one after opening with rounds of 65 and 69.
World number two Vijay Singh of Fiji, twice a winner at the Westchester Golf Club, shared fifth place with Kenny Perry and Australia's John Senden on 208.
Harrington was three-under through 10 holes before briefly losing his way with back-to-back bogeys on 11 and 12. But he rallied with birdies on two of his last three holes.
"I quite like the (course) set-up here and the style of greens were the type I was brought up on," said the Irishman, who lost a playoff to Sergio Garcia at last year's event.
"There's a long way to go," Harrington told reporters. "Tomorrow it could be two wins, I'll give it a good try and we'll see what happens."
Furyk hit back from a bogey on 15 with birdies at the 16th and 18th.
"I didn't play poorly but I didn't give myself many opportunities," said the American, who also lost this event in a playoff in 1998.
"I kind of just got it around but I played solid."
Faxon registered the lowest round of the day, a five-under 66 helping him to join Gay (71) on seven-under.
Singh battled through a rollercoaster round to record a two-under 69.
The tall Fijian mounted an early charge with birdies on three of his opening six holes. He then bogeyed the seventh before reeling off three consecutive birdies around the turn.
But Singh stalled on the back nine, following up a double-bogey on the 13th with a bogey on 16.
