Rain cuts short first days play
Sergio Garcia and Joe Ogilvie took the lead Thursday during the first round of the Bay Hill Invitational before play was halted for the day.
Garcia and Ogilvie were at 3-under-par after eight and 13 holes, respectively, when a thunderstorm stopped competition at 10:36 a.m local time, barely three hours after the first players had teed off.
Subsequent torrential rain prevented any further action, and the round was scheduled to resume early Friday.
Tiger Woods, one shot behind after seven holes, was joined at 2- under by Kenny Perry (eight holes), K.J. Choi (seven holes) and Graeme McDowell (five holes).
Woods popped up his drive at the first hole, hitting his ball only 198 yards and leaving himself 251 yards from the hole, but he salvaged a par by sinking a seven-foot putt.
Ernie Els bogeyed the first two holes, although he clawed his way back to one over after seven holes.
Half the field did not even tee off.
