Levi & Thorpe top leaderboard

Wayne Levi holed out from 182 yards for eagle on the par-4 17th and closed with a birdie for a 5-under 67 and a share of the second-round lead Saturday with Jim Thorpe in the FedEx Kinko's Classic.

The 53-year-old Levi, a 12-time winner on the PGA Tour who has won twice in four seasons on the Champions Tour, used a 6-iron to hole his second shot on No. 17 and tapped in for birdie on 18 after missing another eagle try from 18 feet.

"It takes us a few years to get into full game shape out here, but I've been hitting a lot of good shots,'' Levi said. "I thought my shot on 17 was going to be really close, but I didn't know it went in until I saw all the people jumping up and down.''

The 56-year-old Thorpe birdied his last two holes, sinking a 35-foot putt on the par-5 18th, for a 68 to match Levi at 6-under 138 on The Hills Country Club course.

"I like tough golf course like this,'' Thorpe said. "I'm hitting the ball pretty well this week and if I make a couple of more putts tomorrow, I'll be pretty happy.''

Bruce Fleisher (70) was 5-under, and Mark James (68), Dana Quigley (70) and Brad Bryant (72) were 4-under. First-round leader Curtis Strange followed his opening 67 with a 74 to join Mark Johnson (73) at 3-under.

Levi has six top-10 finishes in seven tournaments this year.

"I had a lot of chances to win this year, but I squandered my own chances. I think a lot of pars tomorrow and sprinkle in a few birdies could do it,'' Levi said.

Graham Marsh won his first 60-and-over Super Seniors title, closing with a 75 and beating Bruce Summerhays in a two-hole playoff.
