Luke Donald delighted with Masters debut
Britain's Luke Donald enjoyed his first trip to the U.S. Masters when two eagles on the back nine helped him climb into a share of third place on five-under-par.
Second after the first round, Donald slipped down the leaderboard over the next two days but went six-under-par for the final eight holes to shoot a closing three-under 69.
A second round 77 seemed to have ended the 27-year-old's chances of a good opening to his Masters career before a third round 69 moved him back into contention.
A double-bogey on the 10th hole in the final round could have sunk his hopes but his blistering finish ensured he would be in next year's field.
"That's a great performance," Donald said.
"I think I will be back next year with confidence high.
"If I can play this event when the course is running, I think it suits me.
"I guess after I double-bogeyed 10 the motto was 'never give up'
"Those par fives on the back, you can make eagles, and bogeys too, but I knew if I kept plugging along, maybe something good would happen."
Donald also chipped in on 11 for birdie and made his eagles with a two-iron approach to 20ft on the 13th and another chip-in on the 15th.
He also birdied the difficult par-three 16th.
"The chip-in from the back edge of 11 got me going, that was the momentum I needed," Donald added.
