Michael Campbell ready for final round chances

U.S. Open champion Michael Campbell is relishing another major trophy battle after shooting a 68 in the third round of the British Open on Saturday.

The New Zealander moved to seven-under-par 209, following up rounds of 69 and 72 at St Andrews.

"It's Pinehurst revisited," said the 36-year-old, who held off a charging Tiger Woods to clinch his maiden major title last month.

"I knew I was playing well enough if I stayed patient.

"I feel very, very confident. I know that I gained a lot of experience a month ago when I won at Pinehurst.

"That experience is going to hold me through if I get into a similar situation, in the running to win another major championship.

"I want to prove a point -- that I'm not just a flash in the pan. I want to win more major championships.

"I'm looking forward to the next 24 hours."

Campbell is also looking to lay a 10-year-old ghost. He led at St Andrews in 1995 going into the final round but came up short and just missed out on the playoff between winner John Daly and runner-up Costantino Rocca.

"I think I've done my time and maybe tomorrow could be the day when I go out and do the business," he said.
