Henrik Nystrom takes two shot lead

Sweden's Henrik Nystrom carded a six-under-par round of 65 to take a two-stroke lead in the Aa St Omer Open in northern France.

Lancashire golfer Paul Dwyer, who lost in a play-off at this course 12 months ago, is in a tie for second place on six under after he shot a 66.

Nystrom, starting at the 10th, had four birdies as he went to the turn in 31 but he dropped a stroke at the 396-yard first only to stage a recovery late on to finish birdie-eagle.

Dwyer, tied with South African Jean Hugo and Cesar Monasterio, double-bogeyed the par-four third and then dropped another shot at the 379-yard sixth.

However, that sparked him into life as he immediately carded four successive birdies and then finished with another four in his last five holes.

"It didn't start off too well - I was three over after six holes but then managed to birdie seven, eight and nine and then I made it four in a row with a birdie on 10," said the 32-year-old from Clitheroe.

"I holed out from about 45 feet on the last, which was a nice way to finish."

Nystrom admitted he was enjoying not having to compete with some of the bigger names as many were in America for the US Open or taking a week off with this being a co-sanctioned event between the European and Challenge Tours.

"It's more fun to play well when the superstars are around but it's always a good week to play well no matter what the tournament is and if you play well you will be up there," said the Swede, who finished seventh at the Celtic Manor Wales Open two weeks ago.

"It's really nice to have shot a few under par. It was a solid round today. I just putted so well - I think had 10 or 11 putts and was striking the ball well."
