Ricardo Gonzalez of Argentina eagled the 18th hole and shot an 8-under 64 Saturday for a one-stroke lead after the third round of the Algarve Open.
Gonzalez equaled the Le Meridien Penina course record and had seven birdies, moving to 13 under 203. Defending champion Paul Broadhurst of England, the leader the first two days, shot a 1-under 71.
Gonzalez had a birdie-eagle finish.
"This is a course for short hitters and people who putt well, but my 64 tells you I can play here," Gonzalez said. "The last five weeks I have been playing well. I just hope I can do it again tomorrow."
Broadhurst had an eagle, three birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey. He equaled the course record in the opening round on Thursday.
"I played really well for eight holes and did not miss a shot," Broadhurst said. "I am still in it as I have not done too much damage. I was behind last year and came through, so it can be done."
Sweden's Jarmo Sandelin (68), Spain's Carl Suneson (66) and England's Anthony Wall (67) were two strokes behind the leader.
