Sergio Garcia in sight of first major title

Sergio Garcia goes in search of his first major championship triumph in the final round of the British Open on Sunday.

The 26-year-old Spaniard, however, will have to cope with the pressure of playing in the last pairing alongside world number one Tiger Woods who has never lost a major while leading going into the last round.

Champion Woods will focus on his efforts on getting back to his best after struggling to a one-under-par 71 on Saturday for a 13-under aggregate of 203.

Garcia, who burst through the pack with a third-round 65, is likely to have the lion's share of the support from a Hoylake crowd keen to salute the first European victory at the British Open since Briton Paul Lawrie won at Carnoustie in 1999.

A 19-year-old Garcia ran Woods close at the 1999 U.S. PGA Championship in Medinah where he famously played his approach shot from under a tree at the 16th in the final round and jumped excitedly to see the result of his efforts.

But Woods played down the idea it would turn into a last-day shootout between him and the Spaniard.

"It's not just Sergio and myself," said the 10-times major winner. "There's a whole bunch of guys up there."

Alongside Garcia on 12-under was American Chris DiMarco and South African Ernie Els, the 2002 champion.

A further stroke back on 11-under were Jim Furyk of the U.S. and Argentine Angel Cabrera.

Hideto Tanihara spearheads the Japanese challenge on 10-under.
