GREAT GIFTS FOR GOLFERS

Randhawa leads whilst Tiger looms

Indian Jyoti Randhawa recovered from a poor start to extend his overnight lead to two strokes early in the second round of the Champions trophy on Friday as Tiger Woods crept ominously up the leaderboard.

Randhawa, seven under overnight, bogeyed his first two holes on a humid day at the Sheshan International Golf Club before bouncing back with five birdies to stand at 10-under-par for the tournament with three holes to go on day two.

South African Retief Goosen was in a pack of six players sharing second, just a shot in front of Woods, who shot six birdies in eight holes around the turn to share eighth place with Indian Shiv Kapur on six-under.

The world number one, who started the day on even par, took a while to get going but four sublime approach shots in a row from hole four left him with birdie putts of 10 foot or less and he drained the lot.

The American's round stalled a little on the next two holes, where he missed birdie chances, but he proceeded to pick up shots at the 10th and 11th holes to the delight of the huge gallery.

Chris DiMarco, among the early leaders on Thursday, lost a shot from his first round score of 69 retroactively when the referee's committee decided he had caused the ball to move on the eighth green.

A statement said the mistake had been with the referees, who were "correcting an incorrect decision" and subsequently the American would not be disqualified for signing for an incorrect score. He stood at one over for the tournament after 14 holes.

A double bogey at the par four fifth followed by two more dropped shots after the turn left defending champion David Howell out of the running in a share of 46th at two over after 12 holes.

With no cut, however, the Briton and the host of Chinese players at the bottom of the leaderboard are guaranteed another two rounds over the weekend.

The $5 million event is sanctioned by the Asian, Australian and Southern Africa tours as well as being the first stop on the 2007 European Tour.
