Points Tables - Ryder Cup 2006

The 2006 U.S. Ryder Cup team is chosen on the basis of points compiled by players starting with the NEC Invitational in August of 2004, through the 88th PGA Championship, which concludes August, 2006.

Regular-season wins on the PGA Tour in a non-Ryder Cup year still earn a player 75 points. A regular-season win in Ryder Cup years will now give a player 375 points, up from 150, while points for top-10 finishes will double.

In the major championships, a win now earns a player 450 points, up from 225 in the previous system. Points for finishing in the top-10 at a major also will be increased.

A win in one of the four majors during a Ryder Cup year will give a player 675 points, compared to 300 under the old system.

Players can only earn points as a top-10 finisher in sanctioned events and the points for spots two through 10 have also been increased.

The top-10 players on the points list will earn automatic spots onto the 2006 Unites States Ryder Cup squad, captained by Tom Lehman.

European Team

Selection for the European Team is based on points earned on The Ryder Cup World Points List and the European Points List.

The Ryder Cup World Points List is comprised of Official World Golf Ranking points won by a European Tour Member from each tournament in which he participates between September 1, 2005 and September 3, 2006.

For the final week of qualifying only, World Ranking Points will be awarded solely for the BMW International Open on The European Tour International Schedule. World Ranking points are allocated to all officially sanctioned tournaments (on any Federated Tour) and are allocated according to the event rating of the tournament.

The Ryder Cup European Points List is comprised of points (1 point = 1 euro) earned by a European Tour Member from all officially sanctioned events counting towards The European Tour Order of Merit between September 1, 2005 and September 3, 2006.

The final team will comprise:

(a) The leading five players on The Ryder Cup World Points List (1) as of Sunday September 3, 2006. In the event of a tie (equal number of points accumulated), placings will be decided by the player with the higher ranking on the Official World Golf Rankings as of Monday August 28, 2006.

(b) The leading five players, not otherwise qualified (having selected the five players from The Ryder Cup World Points List above), from The Ryder Cup European Points List as of Sunday September 3, 2006. In the event of a tie (equal number of points accumulated), placings will be decided by the player with the higher ranking on the 2006 European Tour Order of Merit as of Sunday September 3, 2006.
