Paul Casey holed in one at the short 14th to close down his Ryder Cup foursomes match spectacularly 5 and 4 on Saturday.
Casey, playing with fellow-Englishman David Howell, aced with a four-iron from 213 yards, the first hole in one in the Ryder Cup since 1995, to eclipse Americans Stewart Cink and Zach Johnson who immediately conceded the match.
The feat continued Casey's remarkable run of form. Last Sunday he won the World Matchplay Championship and now the 29-year-old Briton has claimed only the fifth hole in one in Ryder Cup history.
Opponents Cink and Johnson watched stunned as his ball released and trickled into the hole and then immediately conceded the match, with the hole being counted as halved - in holes in one!.
Europe's captain Ian Woosnam watched the feat but Casey revealed he had ignored his skipper's advice.
"Woosie did tell me what the guys in front of me had hit - so I picked a different club," Casey said.
"I hit a four-iron very, very hard and it just made it."
As a result of Casey's ace Europe secured their second point of the afternoon session.
