Andrew Tampion leads as weather cuts short play

European Tour rookie Andrew Tampion is tied for the lead after Friday's suspended second round of the Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open.

Just four tournaments into his tour career, Tampion fired a 5-under-par 66 at Damai Indah Golf and Country Club to move to 8-under-par 134 before darkness halted play with 32 players on the course.

Mikko Ilonen of Finland, who shares the lead with Tampion, had one hole to play before play was suspended.

Both enjoy a three-stoke cushion over their closest challengers - a group of four including Koreans Nam Young-woo and Suk Jong Yul, Thailand's Chapchai Nirat and Gaurav Ghei of India.

Such a lofty status is new ground for the 22-year-old Tampion, who turned pro late last year and earned his card after coming through all three stages of the European Tour qualifying school.

"I am having a ball, to be honest," Tampion said. "I turned professional in November, and this is my fourth event on the European Tour. I am looking forward to some successful years to come.

"I have made two of the three cuts I have played and finished around the 50th mark. I hope I can go out at the weekend, play some good golf and improve on that."

The Australian had to contend with an early wakeup call and 22 holes of golf in order to complete his first round, which was brought to an early end by a storm the previous day.

Tampion's reward is some extra rest Saturday while Ilonen will have to return to complete his final hole of his second round, which was interrupted for 1 hour and 37 minutes by lightning. Ilonen had four birdies and a bogey.

"It's a nice position to be in. I have led at halfway a couple of times before in Malaysia and Dubai," Ilonen said.

Nam Young-woo had the opportunity to hold the clubhouse lead until two late bogeys saw him drop two strokes.

"I wasn't really prepared coming here," he said. "I had to attend my friend's wedding on Wednesday night in Korea. So I took the night flight out and got into Bangkok and I transferred from Bangkok to here, and got in yesterday (Thursday).

"It's a joke really. You don't come into a big event unprepared like this and then shoot a good score. But I stuck to routine and used what I've learned, so it helped."

Thailand's Chawalit Plaphol, who held the overnight lead after carding a bogey-free 6-under 65 Thursday, slipped to a 3-over 74 on Friday.

Defending champion Simon Dyson of England is at 1-under overall after carding a 71.
