Frankie Minoza topped the leaderboard Saturday at the Indonesian Open before monsoon storms stopped play early for the third consecutive day.
Aiming to become the first Filipino to win a European tour event, Minoza was at 8 under with a hole to play in the third round, one stroke ahead of the tight pack led by Mikko Ilonen of Finland and Suk Jong-yul of South Korea.
Australian rookie Andrew Tampion, who shared the second-round lead with Ilonen, was next 5 under, but with all of the top players still on the course, the clubhouse leaders were Tony Carolan of Australia and Shiv Kapur of India at 4-under 209.
"Hopefully the boys left out on the course don't pull away too far so I'll be able to catch them in the final round," Carolan said. "I'm definitely looking at making a charge for the title. Frankie is in a good position as he is putting and driving consistently well."
Minoza was 5 under for the round as he headed for the 18th hole. A wayward drive left him among plants off the fairway, but he recovered and was preparing to putt for par when rain and lightning stopped play.
"It is just part of the game," Minoza said. "I'm not frustrated. I hit a lot of good shots today and have taken a lot of confidence from my win at the Philippines Open two weeks ago. Winning on The European tour would be a dream come true for me."
