GREAT GIFTS FOR GOLFERS

Tiger Woods still in the hunt despite 74

Tiger Woods was in positive mood despite sliding to a three-over 74 in the British Open second round on Friday.

"I could easily have shot myself right out of the tournament but I kept myself in there," the world number one told reporters after finishing one-over on 143.

"With the bad weather coming I need to get organized because tomorrow will probably be a pretty tough day," he added after trailing leader Sergio Garcia of Spain by seven strokes at the halfway stage of the third major of the year.

The 12-times major champion made the worst possible start when he double-bogeyed the par-four first after duck-hooking his drive into the water.

"It was such a poor shot because the commitment wasn't there," said Woods.

The 31-year-old American birdied the second before limping to the turn in 39 after bogeys at the fifth and eighth.

Woods picked up a stroke at the 14th but an errant approach into a greenside bunker at the last cost another bogey.

He predicted that something close to a par-71 might put him back into the title picture on Saturday.

"I am one over par for the tournament but still not out of it," said Woods, who is chasing his third consecutive victory in the championship.

"You can make moves tomorrow," he added. "You shoot anything around par tomorrow and you'll be looking pretty good."
