GREAT GIFTS FOR GOLFERS

Justin Rose boosted by round of 67

Justin Rose elbowed his way to the fringe of contention with a four-under 67 which took him to one under in the British Open third round on Saturday.

That left the 26-year-old Briton six strokes behind leader Sergio Garcia as he completed the round.

However, with bad weather forecast, Rose's position could improve by the end of the day and offer his best chance of winning the title since 1998 when he finished tied fourth as a 17-year-old amateur.

Nine years ago Rose was the talking point of the weekend at Royal Birkdale as he briefly took the lead and stayed in the hunt for the championship until the closing holes.

Rose said back then that he dreamt he had won the title.

The Englishman, who shared fifth place at this year's U.S. Masters and finished tied 10th at the U.S. Open, said he was making progress towards achieving his dream.

"Today is another step in the right direction, another little piece of confidence," Rose told a news conference after his six-birdie round.

"I'd like to shoot another 67 tomorrow and see how that leaves me. You can't put a number on what might win because of not knowing how the weather is going to turn but I think five under overall might be thereabouts."

Rose said he was seven when he first dreamt about winning the British Open.

"I've done it a few times since," he said.
