American Bruce Vaughan birdied the first playoff hole to defeat countryman John Cook to win the Senior British Open at Royal Troon on Sunday.
Vaughan's one-under par round of 70 was enough to catch overnight leader Cook (71) who crucially missed a par put on the 72nd hole for victory as both players finished with six-under par totals of 278.
The pair then found the 18th green in regulation in the playoff with Vaughan's 15-foot birdie putt finding the cup as his opponents eight footer slid by.
The victory was the Americans first Senior tour title.
Argentine Eduardo Romero (70) was third one shot back at five-under with German Bernhard Langer (68) fourth at four-under.
Australian Greg Norman (68), equal third in last week's British Open at Royal Birkdale, had to settle for a tie for fifth at two-under.
