Adam Scott wins title for third time

Australia’s Adam Scott won the Singapre Open for the third time, completing a 3-under 68 in a Monday finish for a three-stroke victory over Denmark’s Anders Hansen.

Scott, also the winner at Sentosa Golf Club in 2005 and 2006, finished at 17-under 267. He played the final 10 holes Monday after the final round was suspended Sunday because of darkness following a long rain delay.

“It feels great,” Scott said. “Relief to finally get finished. It’s been a bit of a long week.

“I haven’t been putting my best lately and the demons started creeping in on the back nine. But it’s a course I absolutely love and I’ve played so many great shots here.”

Hansen, a two-time winner this year on the PGA European Tour, also closed with a 68 in the event sanctioned by the European and Asian tours. He missed a 20-foot birdie putt on the 15th hole.

“If I had holed that one, I would only be one behind with three to go and then you never know,” Hansen said. “But I missed it, so the chance was gone.”

U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell (70) and Rikard Karlberg (67) tied for third at 13 under.

Masters champion Phil Mickelson had a 70 to finish at 3 under. He was assessed a two-stroke penalty for showing up late at the course for the resumption of play Sunday afternoon.

Defending champion Ian Poulter and Kang Kyung-nam trailed Scott by a stroke after three rounds, but both fell of the pace in the final round. Kang shot a 72 to finished fifth at 12 under, and Poulter had a 73 to drop into a tie for sixth with James Donaldson (70) at 11 under.

Play was suspended for 5 1/2 hours Sunday. There was a four-delay Thursday in the opening round.
