Alexander Noren moves three clear
July 22, 2011

Wales Open winner Alexander Noren briefly held the Bro Hof Slott course record on Friday as he carded a six-under-par 66 to open a three-stroke lead over India’s Shiv Kapur after the Scandinavian Masters second round.

Swede Noren took 31 shots on the front nine on the way to an 11-under total of 133.

“I played probably the best I’ve ever played,” world number 92 Noren told the European Tour’s website.

“I don’t think I’ve ever done that on this course,” he said of his bogey-free round.

Kapur hit eight birdies and two bogeys in his 66 while late starter Jin Jeong of South Korea, the 2010 British Open leading amateur, made sure Noren’s course record was short lived by firing a flawless 65 for 139.

American world number 14 Bubba Watson returned six birdies and an eagle in a 67 for a share of third place on 138 with South African Jaco Van Zyl (71).

Home favourite and 2008 European number one Robert Karlsson (70) moved alongside Jin and two other players on 139.

The top-ranked player in the field, world number seven Dustin Johnson (71) of the U.S., was on 144.
