Trophee Hassan II 2017

Round 4 - Edoardo Molinari wins in a playoff

April 17, 2017

Edoardo Molinari won the Trophee Hassan II in Morocco on Sunday, beating Paul Dunne on the first playoff hole for his first European Tour title in seven years.

Molinari sank a two-foot par putt after Dunne had missed his putt for par from six feet, securing victory for the Italian after a 5-under 68 saw him join Dunne at the top of the leaderboard.

Molinari, a former Ryder Cup player, last won on the tour at the Johnnie Walker Championship in 2010. The Trophee Hassan was his third tour title.

''Fantastic. It's been a while,'' Molinari said. ''I've been through some very hard times in the last few years and to get this, I'm very, very pleased.''

England's Paul Waring was third at the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam club on 8 under.

Dunne held the overnight lead and was seeking his maiden title as a professional but closed with a 1-under 72. He also had to make birdie on the last hole of his final round to force the playoff with Molinari.

Molinari had eagled No. 18, one of two eagles for him on the back nine, to go to 9 under and open a two-shot lead. He made four birdies in his closing round but his eagle threes on the two par fives coming home set up his victory.

Dunne made a clutch up-and-down birdie on No. 18 to take the tournament to an extra hole.

Both men made hard work of No. 18 in the playoff, with Molinari ending up over the back of the green with his third shot and Dunne in a greenside bunker.

Molinari put his fourth shot closer, though, and rolled in for par to clinch the title. Dunne's second place was still a career-best finish for the 24-year-old Irishman.

Round 3 - Paul Dunne takes over lead

April 16, 2017

Paul Dunne will take a 2-shot lead into the final round of the European Tour's Trophee Hassan II with a 4-under 69 on Saturday giving him a chance at his first professional title.

The Irishman had six third-round birdies, including on the last hole, to get to 8 under overall and increase his advantage over second-placed Renato Paratore. The one slip from Dunne was a double-bogey on No. 13.

Paratore surged up the leaderboard after a course-record 7-under 66 at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Morocco. The Italian fired in eight birdies and made just one bogey to jump 38 places.

Lasse Jensen (70), Paul Waring (69) and Pablo Larrazabal (69) were tied for third on 5 under, a shot behind Paratore and three off the lead.

Round 2 - Gregory Havret leads at halfway

April 15, 2017

Gregory Havret took the outright lead at the Trophee Hassan II in Morocco as he moved to 6 under par after the second round on Friday.

The Frenchman made four birdies and an eagle at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam for his second straight 3-under 70, opening a one-shot lead over Lucas Bjerregaard and Trevor Fisher Jr.

Denmark's Bjerregaard carded a 2-under 71 and South Africa's Fisher Jr. a 3-under 70.

Havret was part of a four-way tie for the lead overnight but pushed clear and could have had more of an advantage heading to the weekend if he hadn't bogeyed his last two holes. His last victory on the European Tour was nine years ago.

Bjerregaard, who also had a share of the first-round lead, had four birdies and two bogeys.

Fisher Jr. put himself in contention with six birdies, although he also made double bogey on No. 16, his seventh hole.

Paul Dunne, Gregory Bourdy, and James Morrison, another of the overnight leaders, are all another shot back in a tie for fourth at 4 under.

Round 1 - Four share first round lead

April 14, 2017

Gary Stal, Gregory Havret, James Morrison, and Lucas Bjerregaard made 3-under-par 70s to share the lead after the first round of the European Tour's Trophee Hassan II in Morocco on Thursday.

Stal was the early pacesetter while Havret and Morrison also made five birdies and two bogeys to be part of the leading group at the Royal Dar Es Salam club.

Bjerregaard's adventurous round included an eagle, six birdies, and five bogeys.

Former Ryder Cup player Edoardo Molinari birdied his last two holes to move a shot off the lead. He was one of nine players on 2 under and just a shot behind. Another of those chasers was Alexander Levy, who finished with a birdie, then an eagle after holing his approach, and then a three-putt bogey.

On a day where scoring wasn't easy and no one shot lower than 70, 52 players were on level par or better and within three shots of the lead. The European Tour said it was the first round in 57 rounds so far this season where no player broke 70.

Stal has just one tour victory, the 2015 Abu Dhabi Championship where he won ahead of Rory McIlroy, but he set the clubhouse target despite a bogey on his final hole.

Englishman James Heath's 4-over 77 was unremarkable except for his experience on No. 17, where he decided to remove his trousers, shoes, and socks to play a chip out of shallow water in shirt, cap, and underwear. He made bogey.
