The Solheim Cup - Match history & records

Karsten SolheimCreated by Karsten Solheim, founder of the Ping brand, as the Ladies' equivalent of the Ryder Cup, the Solheim Cup is a biennial, team match-play competition between American members of the LPGA Tour and European members of the LET.

The format is broadly similar to the Ryder Cup, with two captains nominated by their respective tours leading teams composed of players who qualify automatically on performance, together with a number of 'Captain's Picks'. The matches involve a series of foursomes (alternate shot), fourballs and singles, played over three days.

The records below are currently being updated to include 2013

The USA leads 8-5 in the matches and had never lost The Solheim Cup on home soil until 2013.

Leaving aside individual player's records, it is noteworthy that over the 13 playings of the Solheim Cup, Europe are marginally ahead in the two paired formats (foursomes and fourballs) by a combined 78½ points to 73½, but massively behind in the singles by 48½ points to the USA's 75½.
