The Masters

The first of the four annual professional majors is also the most recent, founded in 1934 by Robert Tyre 'Bobby' Jones, the greatest player the world had ever seen, as his personal invitational tournament at the course he created, Augusta National.
The first playing was won by Horton Smith (left), with Bobby Jones, although by then retired from competitive golf, tied 13th.

The Masters Par 3 Contest
Contested every Wednesday of Masters week since 1960, it's a fun event, not too serious, with trick shots and players' children often acting as caddies. But the event has a sting in its tail - the famous 'jinx'. No winner of the Par 3 Contest in 51 years has ever gone on to claim the Green Jacket the following Sunday.
