Career highlights: Earned second and third titles in just second year as tour member in 1993. These were his initial two as a professional since his first came as an amateur in 1991 when he won the Northern Telecon Open finishing one stroke ahead of Bob Tway and Tom Purtzer. Playing in front of his home crowd he won the 1993 Buick Invitational.Also in 1993 he finished eight shots clear of Mark Calcavecchia to win $234,000 (largest cheque of his career) in the International. He tied for sixth place in the 1993 PGA Championship.

Joined tour: June 1992.

He was winner of the 1989-90-92 NCAA for ASU. Won the 1990 US Amateur, only lefthander to do so and he became the only player other than Jack Nicklaus to win NCAA and US Amateur titles in the same year. He is one of four collegians (Ben Crenshaw, Curtis Strange, Billy Ray Brown) to win the NCAA title in freshman year. He is four-time four-team All-America 1989-92 (only Gary Hallberg and David Duval have achieved same status) Winner of the 1990-92 collegiate player of the year; 1991 Golf World Amateur Player of the Year; 1989-91 Walker Cup player; low amateur 1990-91 US Opens, and 1991 Masters Tournament.

Best 1995 finishes: 1 - Northern Telecon Open; T4 - US Open, NEC World Series of Golf; T7 Masters Tournament.

Personal: Started hitting balls at 1½. Right-handed in everything but golf (father demonstrated right-handed but Phil followed along left-handed).
