It
is argued that Eldrich "Tiger" Woods is the most famous amateur since
Bobby Jones. Tiger
Woods' career started very early and was guided by his father, Earl. He
appeared on the Mike Douglas show as a golf prodigy taking with him a tiger. Since
then his father and "Tiger" have become TV and media celebrities. Tiger
Woods is impressive as an immensely long hitter and won the NCAA Championship
in 1996. His presence at major tournaments has always attracted a lot of attention. He
was a three times winner of the US Junior Championship from 1991-93, and has won
the USGA championships five years in a row with three consecutive wins in the
US Amateur Championship 1994, 95 and 96. London,
1st May - The first authorised biography, "Tiger, A Biography of Tiger
Woods", comes from a writer with unparalleled access to Tiger Woods and his
family. The book is now available from bookshops. John
Strege, a golf writer and friend of Tiger Woods and his parents takes us behind
the scenes from the time Tiger picked up his first golf club at the age of nine
months, to his first hole-in-one at the age of six and follows his unprecedented
domination of junior, amateur and now high-stakes professional golf. Packed
with personal anecdotes from the Woods family as well as stories of what it's
like to play a course with Tiger from golf greats such as Jack Nicklaus and Arnold
Palmer, this book details his unshakeable relationship with his parents, the racial
issues that have flanked his ascent through the ranks of amateur golf, and the
string of almost mythical golf successes. John
Strege has covered Tiger Woods for the 'Orange County Register' since Tiger was
fourteen years old. He is also a contributor to Sports Illustrated, Golf and Golf
World. Records
