Despite not playing since his victory at the US Open, while he recovers from knee surgery, Tiger Woods remains on top of the world ranking at the end of 2008, a position he has occupied for a record total of 528 weeks. The previous record for weeks at no. 1 was held by Greg Norman with 331 weeks. Woods' no. 1 status is however at risk from second placed Sergio Garcia, or third and fourth placed Phil Mickelson and Padraig Harrington.
