Europe

The qualifying process for the Johnnie Walker European Ryder Cup team is based on performances in all Volvo Ranking events between the One 2 One British Masters on August 28 -3 1 1996, up to the week ending 31st August 1997.
Additional monies won in the 1997 US Masters, US Open and US PGA Championship by European players eligible for selection for the European team will be added with an exchange rate based on the £/$ rate on the first Thursday of the tournament.
From this procedure the leading ten players automatically qualify for the Ryder Cup.The team Captain, Severiano Ballesteros, will select the remaining two players.
If the team Captain holds one of the leading ten places in the Johnnie Walker Qualifying Points List on 31st August 1997, then he has the option to stand down and select one other player of his choice.
