World Match Play gets internet company as its new sponsor

London - The World Match Play Championship has a new title sponsor - internet company Cisco Systems - and is set to have one of the strongest fields in its 35-year history at Wentworth on 15th - 18th October.

World number one Tiger Woods and three-time winner Ernie Els have been confirmed as two of the 12 players, joining Masters and Open champion Mark O'Meara and defending champion Vijay Singh, winner of his first major title at the USPGA Championship last month.

Woods will be making his debut in the championship, as he will in the Alfred Dunhill Cup at St Andrews the week before. There he partners O'Meara and 1995 Open champion John Daly.

The other eight players will be announced in the next few weeks.

First prize is again 170,000 and for the first time the tournament will have its own dedicated website.

Cisco Systems take over as the title sponsor from Toyota two weeks after it was announced that Diners Club International are to be the "presenting sponsor'' of the event.
