October 1998) Langer
replaces Cink in World Matchplay St
Andrews, Scotland - Two-time finalist Bernhard Langer of Germany
was named on Friday to replace American Stewart Cink in next week's World
Matchplay Championship at Wentworth. Langer,
a former world number one now ranked 29th, has competed in the Matchplay seven
times and lost in the 1984 and 1985 finals to Seve Ballesteros, a five-time champion.
Cink withdrew
earlier this week to pursue a spot in the U.S. Tour Championship later in the
month. He is currently 32th on the U.S. Tour money list with the top 30 qualifying
for the lucrative Tour Championship in Atlanta beginning on 29th October. |
