Monty named Golfer of the Month

London - Colin Montgomerie has been named the European tour's Golfer of the Month for September following his wins in the Linde German Masters and One 2 One British Masters.

The two victories, coming only weeks after he asked original coach Bill Ferguson to help him out of a mini-slump, took Montgomerie back to the top of the European Order of Merit and in sight of becoming number one for a sixth successive season.

He was named ahead of German Sven Struver, winner of the Canon European Masters in Switzerland, and Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez, who chipped in at the last to win the Lancome Trophy in Paris.
