and Westwood target £1 million European Tour recordLondon
- Colin Montgomerie and Lee Westwood are on the verge of creating history if either
of them win the end-of-season Volvo Masters and passing £1 million in official
money in a single season on the European Tour. Montgomerie
ansd Westwood, seperated by £45,000 in the Volvo Ranking, have won £760,077 and
£714,811, respectively this season. If
Monty wins the £1 million Volvo Masters, which takes place at the end of the month
at Montecastillo, he will earn £166,000 first prize and a further £170,000 from
the Volvo bonus pool to take his winnings to £1,096,077. Victory
for Lee Westwood, the defending champion, would lift his earnings total in the
European Tour season to £1,050,811. Montgomerie,
who is seeking a record sixth successive Volvo Ranking title, set the record for
official money in a single season with £875,146 in 1996.
