Westwood withdraws from European Open and told to rest hip injury

Straffan, Ireland - Top ranked European Lee Westwood has withdrawn from the final round of the Smurfit European Open and he will miss the BMW International Open that begins in Munich on Thursday. after a recurrance of his hip injury.

The 25-year-old from Worksop struggled to a third round 77 and revealed "I started feeling it again in the USPGA Championship and I have been told to rest.

"It's normally when I put a lot of pressure on it hitting a lot of balls."

Victory today for Darren Clarke in this event and Westwood withdrawing would see the Ulsterman take the top spot in the European Money list.
