England's
Mike Slater won his first tournament after two years on the European Seniors Tour
with a four-shot victory Sunday.
The
powerful club professional from Portal in Warrington shot a 3-under-par 69. It
gave him a 13-under-par total of 203 and finally closed out his nearest challenger,
American Jerry Bruner, who carded a 74, four strokes back.
Nicknamed
"Big Red" following a shock of ginger hair when young, has collected three course
records in the past five weeks including a 66 on the opening day in Holland.
Slater said: "This is a
wonderfull early present. I've been waitng a long time for this. I'm thrilled
to bits, especially with the way I held on to clinch it this time. Now I'm off
to the Ryder Cup and looking forward to another British success."
