Parsons
storms to win after 63 Australian
Lucas Parsons fired a course record 63 at Sable Solesmes in France to win the
Challenge de Sable in a canter. The
29-year-old finished on 18-under-par 270, four shots clear of overnight leader,
Kalle Brink from Sweden, who returned 70, and five in front of Markus Brier of
Austria, who had a 69. Parsons,
who led for the first two rounds, but started the day three adrift of Brink, gave
no hint of the fireworks to come as he reached the turn in 34. But
he blitzed the back nine, running in seven birdies in his 29 to trim the previous
record by a stroke. It
was his first victory in Europe and he said: "I always believed I could win
but I played it hole by hole and didn't think too far ahead." Best
British finisher was Scot, Euan Little in joint eighth, who went round in 70 for
277, 11 under par, to climb into 21st place on the rankings. Welshman
David Park remains number one despite a closing 72 for 281 and is now £2,265
ahead of Spain's Carl Suneson, who was joint fourth in France.
