South Africa beat Spain to retain Dunhill Cup

Final Day Report

St Andrews, Scotland, 11th October 1998 - South Africa retained the £1 million  ($1.71 million) Alfred Dunhill Cup when they beat Spain 3-0 in the final on Sunday.

Retief Goosen beat Santiago Luna 72-73 with a birdie on the last hole, David Frost defeated Miguel Jimenez 76-78 and Ernie Els beat Jose Maria Olazabal 75-77.

In the earlier semifinals, the Spanish fourth seeds upset the top-seeded United States 2-1 and sixth-seeded South Africa beat second-seeded Australia by the same score.
